Recycling & Waste

Ballasts

Legal Considerations

It is illegal to place ballasts that contain PCBs in the trash.

Disposal

The ballast label may indicate whether or not it contains PCBs (polychlorinated biphenyls). If the label does not indicate this, assume the ballast contains PCBs.

Bring ballasts that contain PCBs to the household hazardous waste collection sites for free.

Ballasts without PCBs may be placed in the trash.

Recycle

Ballasts that don't contain PCBs are accepted at the recycling companies listed below. Call to verify items accepted, hours and fees.
