Paint

Disposal

Do not place oil-based or latex (water-based) paint, primer, stain or wood sealers in the trash. Do not pour them down the drain or on the ground.

Bring oil-based and latex paint to one of the household hazardous waste collection sites for free.

  • Dried latex paint is non-hazardous and should be placed in the trash. Take the lid off before disposing and put the lid in the trash.
  • Empty paint cans should be placed in the trash if the paint coating the inside of the can is completely dry. Take the lid off before disposing and put the lid in the trash.

You can also bring paint to a local paint retailer. Use PaintCare.org to find a drop-off program near you.

Acrylic latex artist paint (i.e., paint tubes) can be thrown in the trash.

You can also bring paint to the company listed below.
