It is illegal to dispose of tree stumps and other yard waste in the trash.

Recycle

Tree stumps without roots are accepted at the yard waste collection sites.

You can also grind up the stump (or have it ground up professionally) and use it for mulch around your landscaping. For other ways to manage stump grindings, see wood chips/mulch.
