Three Ramsey County commissioners took their oath of office for their 2025-2029 terms during the Jan. 7 board of commissioners meeting:

“I’m energized to work with our newly elected and re-elected commissioners as we focus on creating lasting, positive change for our residents,” said County Manager Ling Becker. “Their passion for serving our community inspires bold thinking and action as we tackle challenges and seize opportunities to improve the lives of residents across our county.”

The board elected Rafael Ortega (District 5) as Board Chair for 2025. Commissioner McGuire was elected to serve as vice chair. The six current members of the board voted unanimously for both of the appointments.

A special election will be held Feb. 11 for District 3, which is vacant after Trista Martinson resigned in 2024 to lead Ramsey/Washington Recycling & Energy. The District 3 commissioner serves residents of the Falcon Heights and Saint Paul neighborhoods of Payne/Phalen, North End/South Como, Como Park, Frogtown, Hamline-Midway and St. Anthony Park.
