County goes green in support of veterans
Five Ramsey County-owned buildings are illuminated green this week as part of Operation Green Light, a nationwide initiative to let veterans know that they are seen, appreciated and supported. Union Depot, the Plato Building, Landmark Center, the Law Enforcement Center and the County Courthouse have green lights displayed inside or out in this new campaign with the National Association of Counties and the National Association of County Veteran Service Officers.
Operation Green Light’s mission is to show support for veterans of all military conflicts, as well as raise awareness about the unique challenges faced by many veterans (and their families) and the resources that are available at the county, state, and federal level to assist veterans and their families.
Residents are also encouraged to participate by simply changing one light bulb in their house to a green bulb. This can be an exterior light that neighbors and passersby see, or an interior light that sparks a conversation with friends. Shining a green light, lets veterans know that they are seen, appreciated, and supported.
While this event is focused around the week of Veterans Day (Nov. 7-13), participants are encouraged to continue shining the light year-round. Ramsey County Veterans Services has a limited supply of green light bulbs available, for veterans and their families only. Contact Veterans Services at 651-266-2545 if you would like to get a light bulb for your home. Veterans and their families are asked to call first to check on the availability of the light bulbs before coming in to get one.
