Jackson Street bridge closed between Empire and Acker

Ramsey County Public Works has closed the Jackson Street bridge between Empire Drive and Acker Street, north of Pennsylvania Avenue in Saint Paul. Barriers were put in place to close all vehicle, pedestrian and bicycle traffic until interim repairs can be made to the bridge piers. Detour routes are posted for a closure estimated to last approximately three months. Signs direct people west on Pennsylvania, north on Rice, and east on Maryland.
Ramsey County made the decision to close the bridge out of an abundance of caution, following a routine inspection and after consultation with the City of Saint Paul.
The two-lane, 1930s-era bridge carries an estimated 3,500 vehicles a day in a span over multiple railroad lines.
The bridge has previously been under load restrictions and was slated by the county for reconstruction in 2028. Public Works is consulting with bridge experts on the specific interim repairs needed until reconstruction can take place.
