Veterans Services wins award for data improvements to improve racial equity analysis
Ramsey County's Veteran Services recently won the Tyler Technologies VSO Excellence Award - Awesome Organization for their commitment to improving client data to better understand and serve the diverse needs of the county’s veteran population.
Since 2019, Veterans Services has prioritized improving their data quality. By gathering missing data, ensuring new records include complete data, and implementing a monthly data quality check, the department has made significant strides in addressing missing race data in client records. This improvement has allowed for more accurate racial equity analysis, and informed decision-making and policy development.
Prior to these efforts, a significant portion of client veterans’ records lacked race data, affecting the department's ability to conduct meaningful racial equity assessments of their services. Through their multi-year focus on improving their data, the department has reduced the number of records with missing race information from 52% to 11%.
By prioritizing data quality and utilizing technology, Veteran Services is hoping to advance racial equity in their services through data-driven decision-making.
