Grass Lake Interceptor Rehabilitation Project
Metropolitan Council Environmental Services (MCES) is making improvements to the sanitary sewer interceptors along Grass Lake and the Snail Lake wetlands in the Snail Lake Regional Park located in Shoreview. These improvements will repair the aging infrastructure and improve the system’s efficiency and reliability.
The interceptor located along the east side of Grass Lake, is often submerged due to rising lake levels. This inhibits the ability for MCES staff to perform routine maintenance and poses the threat of leaking wastewater into the lake or even draining the lake of its water. In addition, the portion of interceptor that runs along the Snail Lake Regional Park has damaged castings, cracked rings, and exposed manhole structure, posing similar threats to the adjacent wetlands.
Key improvements of this project include:
- Realigning the Grass Lake interceptor to higher ground
- Rehabilitating the Snail Lake interceptor
- Relocating the trail that runs parallel to the Grass Lake interceptor
- Addition of a cross country ski trail
More information about the project can be found through the MCES project page.
