Saunas at the Parks
Experience the warmth and relaxation of mobile saunas this winter at Ramsey County Parks! In collaboration with Saunice and Driftwood Sauna, we’re bringing cozy, mobile outdoor sauna experiences to our parks, offering a perfect way to unwind after enjoying winter’s beauty. Whether you're looking to recharge after a snowy hike, warm up after skiing or simply relax amidst nature, the mobile saunas provide a unique and memorable winter activity.

This season we'll have saunas at Tamarack Nature Center and Lake Johanna at Tony Schmidt Regional Park. This is a weather permitting activity.
Tamarack Nature Center
Driftwood Sauna joins a long tradition, across time and culture, of providing a communal gathering spot for thermoregulatory therapy (i.e. heating and cooling rounds). Guests will be able to experience the physical, mental, and spiritual benefits of sauna with others while enjoying the beauty of the park setting.

Reservations are required. Please head to Driftwood Sauna to book your reservation.
Community Sessions (60 min.)
$25/person; maximum of 8 people per session
Private sessions (75 min.)
1-4 guests $180 total
5-8 guests $300 total
Lake Johanna at Tony Schmidt
In conjunction with Lake Johanna Ice Dippers and in partnership with Ramsey County, Saunice will have mobile saunas at Lake Johanna Beach.

November-April
Sundays only from 10 a.m.-3 p.m.

Reservations are required. Please head to Saunice.net and select Lake Johanna to reserve a seat event.

$10/person - up to 10 people
Private rental (90 min.)
$200/rental - up to 10 people
Mobile sauna permits
Ramsey County Parks & Recreation welcomes mobile sauna operators to apply for a permit to operate at select park locations. Operators must adhere to all county policies and regulations to ensure a safe, respectful, and enjoyable experience for all park users.
Mobile sauna operations are allowed only in designated areas with prior approval.
Potential locations may include:
- Tony Schmidt Regional Park (Lake Johanna)
- Tamarack Nature Center (White Bear Township)
- More to come!

Note: This fee (10% of total reservations) is assessed based on the total amount collected through sauna reservations while operating in the park system.

Operators planning to bring a mobile sauna to a Ramsey County park must comply with the following conditions:
- Public Access: Saunas must be open to the public through a reservation system or drop-in. Private-use-only saunas are not permitted.
- Hours of Operation: Saunas may not operate between 10:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m.
- Designated Use: Sauna units must operate only in approved, designated spaces per permit.
- Prohibited Activities: Alcohol use and illegal activity are strictly prohibited in and around the sauna.
- Insurance: Liability insurance is required. Ramsey County must be named as an additional insured and held harmless for any incidents related to sauna operation. (See insurance requirements during application.)
- Overnight Placement: Units may remain in place overnight unless weather conditions or park staff/public safety personnel request removal.
- Snow Removal: If located on pavement, saunas must be temporarily moved for snowplow access. Operators are responsible for clearing snow around their unit if not relocated.
- Self-contained Operations: All activity must be contained within the sauna trailer. Tents, exterior seating, and other extensions are not permitted unless otherwise approved.
- Trash & Cleanliness: Operators are responsible for collecting and removing any trash left by users.
- Pathway Clearance: Saunas must not block roadways, sidewalks, or trails and must comply with right-of-way rules.
