Community Advisory Council
Established in 1979, the Community Advisory Council advises Social Services, Financial Assistance Services and Health and Wellness Administration and the Ramsey County Board of Commissioners on policy decisions related to services delivered by the departments.
Committees
The Community Advisory Council includes several committees that advise on specific services or topics. Please email [email protected] to request Zoom meeting information. All meetings are open to the public, and guests are welcome to participate.
Adult Mental Health Advisory Council
Help adults living with mental health concerns with living arrangements, school, work and recreation. This committee typically meets on the third Tuesday of each month from 5:30-7:30 p.m.
Adult Services Committee
Help older adults who have disabilities or difficulty living independently and are at risk for abuse. The Adult Services Committee typically meets on the first Thursday of each month from 3-4:30 p.m.
Children's Services Review Panel
Help examine the county’s children’s services policies and make recommendations to improve outcomes for children and families. The Children's Services Review Panel typically meets on the fourth Monday of the month from 4:30-6:30 p.m.
Disability Services and Support Committee
Help community members living with disabilities who are limited in their abilities to live independently. The Disability Services and Support Committee typically meets on the third Monday of each month from 4:30-6:30 p.m.
Substance Use and Recovery Committee
Help community members access appropriate and culturally specific pathways to recovery. The Substance Use and Recovery Committee typically meets on the third Wednesday of each month from 3-4:30 p.m
Roles and responsibilities
Responsibilities
- Provide insight, observations, ideas and challenges from a community perspective regarding the needs of specific vulnerable populations served by the three departments.
- Identify service gaps or inequities and community priorities related to human services.
- Provide input about program development or changes, service area budgets and legislative proposals.
- Educate the broader community about relevant issues and public programming.
- Participate in legislative advocacy on behalf of the vulnerable citizens represented.
- Share information and support with other members of the Community Advisory Council.
- Participate in developing an annual presentation by each advisory committee.
- Initiate reports and recommendations or committee projects that relate to the service delivery system.
Eligibility and expectations
- Members must live or work in Ramsey County.
- The time commitment varies from 5-10 hours a month, if serving on a work group or as an officer.
- Members must represent needs of the population served by a committee, not just one's own organization or individual agenda.
