The Community Health Worker (CHW) Pathway offers Health and Wellness employees in entry-level positions the opportunity to complete a nine month, hybrid (online and in-person) community health worker certificate through St. Kate's University. During the program, participants will gain experience in helping diverse cultures navigate the healthcare system. The program begins January 2023.
Graduates can work in health education roles in Public Health or Social Services with the potential to earn $21-$45 an hour.
Program participants receive:
- Academic help: College preparatory coaching and mentoring available to help them succeed.
- Financial support: Tuition reimbursement, technology funds, book stipend, laboratory fees and incidental expenses for transportation and/or childcare, and other related academic costs.
- Salary supplementation: To allow participants to attend school full-time and continue to work at least 50% of their time, if needed.
Program eligibility:
The CHW track will accept up to 20 participants. Priority will be given to those who are single parents, receiving public assistance, and/or are members of an underrepresented group in the Public Health workforce. To be considered, you must:
- Earn less than $21 per hour.
- Be a Health & Wellness Service Team employee.
- Be employed with Ramsey County for one year.
- Have permanent employment status and are regularly scheduled 64+ hours per pay period.
